Overnight three thin strips of Spotted Gum had been glue-laminated onto the leading edges of the bow and stern. This timber is incredibly dense and will provide impact resistance to the softer Australian red cedar and Huon Pine. This Spotted Gum came from the wooded hinterland of Coffs Harbour.
It takes a razor sharp blade to plane the Spotted Gum.
Testing the sharpness of the blade against a thumb nail.
The finely planed Spotted Gum outer stem which travels over the Huon Pine sheer strip and the Aust red cedar hull strips.
An orbital sander provides a fine finish to the timber.
